One-on-One Shooting

Learning Outcomes

To improve shooting technique.

Description Of Activity

Divide players into pairs and give them a ball.
Each player should stand about 30 feet apart.
Set up 2 cones on each side. They should be about 15-20 feet apart.
Each player should stand between their two cones.

Instructions:

Players take turns trying to score between their opponents cones.
The other player must try to block the shots.
Only shots below the waist are allowed. Each player gets a point for every goal they score.
The drill ends when a player reaches a certain number of points or after a specific amount of time.
Switch partners and repeat the drill as often as needed.

Variations

Decrease the distance between the two cones to make it harder.
Change the rules for shot-blocking. Allow players to use their hands to increase the difficulty.

Coaching Tips

Make sure the players focus on proper shooting techniques.
Ensure players are cautious about the power behind their shots. Split the group into two teams. Players line up in any formation. The game is played 3 v 3 + 2 goalkeepers. Each team stays in their half of the field. The keeper serves the ball to any player who can either shoot or set up a teammate to shoot. The opposite team can try and block shots. If a goal is scored or the ball goes out of play the opposite goalkeeper can serve the ball.

Equipment/Material Required

2 goals, cones, balls by both goals.
