  2. Compare the speed of Earthworm, snail, bird, fish and cockroach
  3. Explain the gait of different animals

Description Of Activity

How to play

  1. Students are divided into five groups as group A,B,C,D,E and running race is conducted among them
  2. Group A represents the Earthworm, so they need to move like Earthworm
  3. Group B represents Snail, which needs to move very slowly like snail
  4. Group C represents bird, they can move by stretching the hands and showing fly patterns in their hands
  5. Group D represents fish, they can swim in water like fish, or lie down in the ground and make fish movement
  6. Group E represents cockroach, they need to  move like cockroach crawling and jumping in the ground

For the added effect, pictures of the respective animals can be drawn and pasted in their dress. Slow and fast movement can be found in this activity. Time taken for each group of students reaching the end point also can be calculated.

Variations

Speed of different animals locomotion can be found by this activity and their movement patterns also could be understood. Students represent different animals pattern of movement

Coaching Tips

Physical education teacher can teach the sports skills, science teacher will explain the movement pattern, organs involved, fast or slow by eliciting answers from the students

Equipment/Material Required

Play ground, swimming pool can be used for showing fish movement
