Seed sowing game

Learning Outcomes

1. After playing this game, the learners will understand the basic steps of seed sowing and ideal requirements for seed germination.

2. Learners will be physically active during playing the game.

Description Of Activity

1. The entire class would be divided into two teams. Team 1 would be SEED SOWER TEAM and team 2 would be DORMANCY TEAM.

2.There would be a pattern drawn on the ground of a dimension 25 ft x 25 ft.( Ref: Image)

3.One player of team 1 would take the position at seed sower place and 4 players of team 2 would take position at dormancy place.

4. Seed sower has to put pebbles ( 16 pebbles taken as seeds) one by one in the small squares.

5.For corret placing of seed in the boarder squares , he would earn 1 point each and in middle square 2 points each. Maximum 20 points can be earned by a seed sower player.

6.If more than one seeds are placed in any square, then player  of dormancy team in the corner would takeaway the extra seed and for this negative 5 points would be awarded to seed sower team.

7. Similarly if any seed placed outside the grid then it would be captured by dormancy team and negative 5 points would be awarded for each seed.

8.In this way 10 players of team 1 will play and and their total points would be calculated.

9.After this the team would alter for second round and total points earned by team 2 would be calculated.

10. The team having maximum scores would be winner.

Variations

Positive 5 points to team to for grabbing misplaced seeds would reduce the time of play and winner could be decided in single round.

Coaching Tips

1. Basic requirements for proper germination of seed are moisture, nutrient,light and temperature. Thus 4 sides of the grid represent these amenities.

2.Proper balance of these is essential thus more points are alloted to the central squares.

3.Seed should be evenly distributed on the field. If they get accumulated then their growth will be hampered. Thus the dormancy team would grab the extra acumulated seeds and negative points would be awarded .

4.Seed sown outside the prepared field get destroyed . Thus if the seed fall outside the grid, then it would be grabed by dormancy team and -5 points would begiven to seed sower team.

 

Equipment/Material Required

16 round pebbles to be taken as seeds. Open ground for playing.
