Description Of Activity

Pass Like a Pro transforms a simple bounce pass into a fun and challenging shooting drill! Students will practice throwing bounce passes through a hoop, improving their passing accuracy and technique in a dynamic way.

Warm-Up (5 minutes):
Fun, upbeat music!
A light jog or jumping jacks to get the heart rate up.
Arm circles (forward and backward) and torso twists.
Practice dribbling a basketball with both their dominant and non-dominant hand.

Activity (20 minutes):

1. Bounce Pass Basics (5 minutes):
Demonstrate the proper bounce pass technique:
Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and knees slightly bent.
Hold the basketball comfortably in two hands in front of your chest.
Look at your target (the hoop).
Dip the ball slightly and extend your arms forward while pushing the ball down towards the ground.
Follow through with your arms and hand after releasing the ball, pointing towards your target.

2. Pass Like a Pro Challenge (10 minutes):
Explain the challenge: Students will take turns throwing bounce passes through the hoop from various distances.
Mark starting lines with cones (optional) to designate different distances.

Cool-Down (5 minutes):
Gentle stretches for arms, shoulders, and legs.
Light walking or jogging to cool down gradually.

Variations

Partner Up: Students can work in pairs, taking turns passing the basketball back and forth through the hoop with bounce passes. This encourages communication and cooperation.
Knockdown Drill: Combine the bounce pass with shooting practice. Students dribble to a designated spot, make a bounce pass, and then attempt a layup shot.
Competition Time! Divide the class into teams and have them compete to see which team can make the most bounce passes through the hoop within a time limit.

Coaching Tips

Focus on Technique! Emphasize proper hand positioning, dip and extension of the arms, and following through with the pass.
Eyes on the Prize! Encourage students to keep their eyes focused on the target (the hoop) throughout the throwing motion.
Balance is Key! Remind students to maintain good balance with their feet shoulder-width apart for a stable throwing base.
Start Close: Begin with short distances for the bounce pass and gradually increase the distance as students improve their accuracy.
Use Both Hands! Encourage students to practice throwing bounce passes with both their dominant and non-dominant hand.
