Activity
Students will be able to walk forward, backward, and sideways while maintaining balance.
Students will be able to follow simple instructions.
Students will be able to participate in group activities.
Warm-Up:
Play some fun music (optional) and have students walk freely around the space, stretching their arms and legs.
Lead students in some light jumping jacks or marching in place.
Main Activity :
Walking Forward: Explain to the students that we are going on a walking adventure! Set up cones in a straight line at one end of the play area.
Demonstrate walking forward, reminding students to keep their feet shoulder-width apart and look straight ahead.
Have students take turns walking forward between the cones, encouraging good posture and balance.
Walking Backward: After everyone has practiced walking forward, explain that now we will walk backward! Demonstrate walking backward slowly, taking small steps, and looking over your shoulder.
Set up the cones in a new line and have students practice walking backward between the cones. Remind them to be careful and go slow.
Walking Sideways: Explain that now it's time to walk like a crab! Demonstrate walking sideways with students, taking big steps, and keeping their bodies straight.
Set up the cones in a zig-zag pattern and have students practice walking sideways between the cones. Encourage them to keep their bodies facing forward and not turn their feet completely.
Cool-Down :
Play some calming music (optional) and have students walk slowly around the space.
Lead students in some gentle stretches for their legs and arms.
Differentiation:
For younger students, you can reduce the distance between the cones or have them hold onto a partner's hand for balance.
For older students, you can increase the distance between the cones or challenge them to walk in different combinations, like forward and then sideways.
Wrap-up :
Gather students together and discuss the different ways they walked today.
Ask them which way was the easiest and which way was the hardest.
Celebrate their achievements and encourage them to practice walking in different directions at home.
Assessment:
Observe students throughout the lesson to see if they can:
Walk forward, backward, and sideways with some degree of balance.
Follow instructions for changing directions.
Participate actively in the group activities.
Open space in a gym or playground (free from obstacles)
Cones (4-6)
Fun music (optional)
