Description Of Activity

Activity: Animal Adventure!

This lesson plan incorporates various animal movements set to different music genres.

Warm-Up (5 minutes):

Play upbeat music. Start with slow walking, gradually increase the pace to jogging, then slow back down to walking.
Introduce animal walks: Have children pretend to be elephants (heavy stomps), monkeys (side shuffles with arm swings), and penguins (waddle with arms tucked in).
Animal Movement Stations (15 minutes):

Bunny Hop: Set up cones in a zigzag pattern. Play fast-paced music and instruct children to hop from cone to cone-like bunnies.
Slithering Snake: Use masking tape to create a long, winding path on the floor. Play slow, slithering music. Children crawl on their bellies, following the path like snakes.
Soaring Bird: Spread hula hoops on the floor. Play inspiring music. Children jump from hoop to hoop, pretending to be birds soaring through the sky.
Monkey Swings: Use the parachute (if available) or have children hold onto a sturdy object. Play jungle-themed music. Children swing back and forth on the parachute/object, pretending to be monkeys swinging through trees.
Cool-Down (5 minutes):

Play calming music. Have children walk slowly, then gradually slow down to gentle stretches (reaching for the sky, touching toes).
Use scarves as props: Children create different animal shapes with their scarves while lying on the ground (elephant trunk, butterfly wings, etc.).
Adaptations:

Adjust the difficulty of movements based on children's abilities.
Offer visual cues (pictures of animals) for each movement station.
Include short breaks between stations for younger children.
Fun Tip:

Throughout the activity, encourage children to make animal sounds that correspond to their movements!
