Jumping on One Feet and Catching

Learning Outcomes

Students will practice hopping on one foot for an extended period.
Students will develop hand-eye coordination by catching objects.
Students will follow directions and participate safely in group activities.

Description Of Activity

Warm-Up (5 Minutes):
Play some upbeat music and have students jog in place for 30 seconds.
Transition to jumping jacks for 30 seconds.
Lead students through some dynamic stretches focusing on legs and arms.

Hoppity Hop Course:
Set up cones in a zig-zag pattern spread across the play area.
Explain that students will hop on one foot the entire time, switching feet when they turn around a cone.
Demonstrate the hopping technique, emphasizing a soft landing on the ball of the foot.
Have students practice hopping through the course individually at first.
Once comfortable, encourage them to follow each other through the course, maintaining a safe distance.

Hoppity Catch :
Scatter the beanbags around the play area, ensuring they are spread out evenly.
Place the hoops on the ground in various locations.
Instruct students to continue hopping on one foot but add the challenge of catching a beanbag thrown by the teacher.
Start by throwing slowly and close to the students, gradually increasing the distance and speed as they improve their coordination.
Encourage students to hop towards a hoop after catching the beanbag and try to throw it through the hoop.
You can modify the throwing difficulty based on student abilities.

Cool-Down (5 Minutes):
Gather students in a circle and have them walk or jog slowly for a minute.
Lead gentle static stretches focusing on major muscle groups.
Finish with a calming breathing exercise, encouraging students to take deep breaths in through their nose and out through their mouth.

Differentiation:
For students who struggle with hopping on one foot, allow them to alternate feet during the course.
You can adjust the size of the hoops based on student throwing abilities.
Introduce the parachute (optional) for a more cooperative activity. Have students hold the edge and create wind to help colored beanbags float around. Students can hop and try to catch them in their hands.

Safety:
Ensure the play area is free from obstacles.
Remind students to keep a safe distance from each other while hopping.
Instruct them to land softly with their knees slightly bent.
Fun Factor:
Use brightly colored beanbags and hoops to keep the activity visually appealing.
Play upbeat music during the hopping activities.
Encourage cheers and positive reinforcement for successful catches and throws.
