Activity
Players will learn the proper body positioning and footwork for the inside cut technique.
Players will develop the ability to change direction while maintaining control of the ball explosively.
Players will practice decision-making by choosing the right moment to execute the inside cut.
Beat the Defender - Inside Cut Challenge
Divide players into groups of 2.
Set up a square grid with cones, approximately 10 meters x 10 meters.
One player dribbles the ball inside the grid while the other player acts as the defender, positioned slightly outside the grid.
The dribbler practices the inside cut technique:
Dribble towards a cone at a moderate pace.
Plant the foot furthest from the cone (right foot for a leftward cut, and vice versa).
Push off with the planted foot while quickly shifting weight to the opposite leg.
Simultaneously, touch the ball with the inside of the closest foot, turning sharply inwards.
Accelerate past the cone, maintaining control of the ball.
The defender tries to prevent the dribbler from going past the cone.
Players switch roles after a set time (30 seconds - 1 minute).
Cool Down:
Light jog around the field for 2 minutes.
Static stretches focus on hamstrings, quadriceps, and core muscles.
Increase difficulty: Introduce a second defender inside the grid who can also challenge the dribbler.
Focus on weak foot: Instruct players to practice the inside cut with their non-dominant foot.
Timed Challenge: Time each player's dribble through the grid, aiming for a faster completion time with each attempt.
Finishing Touch: Add a small goal at the end of the grid. After completing the inside cut, players can attempt a shot on goal.
Emphasize proper body position - low center of gravity, shoulders open towards the direction of the turn.
Focus on a quick first touch with the inside of the foot to initiate the turn.
Encourage players to "explode" out of the turn with acceleration.
Remind players to keep their head up while dribbling and turning to maintain awareness of the defender and surrounding space.
