Activity
Students will explore different ways of moving their bodies while imitating jungle animals.
Students will develop coordination skills through balance and locomotor movements.
Students will participate in rhythmic activities using body percussion and vocalizations.
Students will demonstrate spatial awareness by navigating obstacles and maintaining personal space.
Warm-up :
Jungle Welcome: Play some jungle sounds or upbeat music and have students walk around the space freely, waving their arms like branches and wiggling their hips like snakes. Encourage them to make jungle sounds like roars, chirps, and hoots.
Main Activity :
Animal Walk: Introduce different jungle animals one by one. For each animal, demonstrate and have students imitate its movement:
Elephant: Slow, heavy stomps with arms raised like a trunk.
Monkey: Swinging arms and hopping on one leg or both.
Snake: Slithering on the ground on their bellies, twisting and turning.
Tiger: Pouncing movements with a low crouch and a jump.
Obstacle Course (Optional): Set up a simple obstacle course using cones or markers. Students can navigate the course using the different animal walks practiced earlier.
Rhythm Time: Play a simple jungle beat or rhythm on a drum or with your voice. Students can clap, stomp, or pat their legs to create their own jungle music. Encourage variations in loud and soft sounds.
Cool-Down :
Jungle Relaxation: Play calming music or nature sounds. Have students lie down on their backs and take slow, deep breaths, imagining themselves relaxing in the jungle. Guide them through a visualization of the sights and sounds of the jungle.
Differentiation:
For younger students, focus on a smaller number of animal movements and simpler obstacle courses.
For older students, introduce more complex movements and challenge them to create their own animal walks or rhythms.
Assessment:
Observe students throughout the lesson and assess their participation, ability to follow instructions, and coordination during the different activities.
Extension Activities:
Read a story about a jungle adventure.
Have students create their own jungle animals and movements.
Make jungle-themed crafts like masks or animal puppets.
Safety Considerations:
Ensure the space is clear of any obstacles that could cause injury.
Supervise students closely during all activities.
Modify the activities as needed to ensure the safety of all students.
This lesson plan provides a framework for a fun and engaging PE lesson that promotes sensory exploration, coordination, rhythm, and spatial awareness in a pre-primary setting. Feel free to adjust it based on the needs and interests of your students.
