Have fun and enjoy physical activity!

Description Of Activity

This fun and engaging lesson plan will introduce students to different movement pathways used in physical education. Through exciting activities and stories, they will explore walking forward, backward, sideways, up, down, and in circles.

Warm-Up (5 minutes):
Play upbeat music (optional).
Animal Walk: Mimic animal movements like hopping like bunnies, walking like elephants, or crawling like snakes.
Jumping Jacks: Get everyone's energy flowing with some jumping jacks.

Station 1: Wiggle Walk (5 minutes):
Story Time: Tell a short story about a wiggle worm trying to reach its apple snack.
Movement Time: "Wiggle" forward on our bellies like the worm (walking forward on hands and knees).
Variation: Use cones or markers to create a "worm tunnel" to crawl through (optional).

Station 2: Wobble Walk (5 minutes):
Story Time: Tell a story about a wobbly penguin walking on ice.
Movement Time: "Wobble" from side to side, keeping our feet close together like the penguin.
Variation: Use cones or markers to create a "wobbling path" to walk sideways (optional).

Station 3: Up & Down Walk (5 minutes):
Story Time: Tell a story about a playful puppy going up and down a slide.
Movement Time: "Slide" down on our bottoms (sitting down and scooting backward) like the puppy. Then "climb" back up on our hands and knees.
Variation: If available, use a low slide or climbing structure for a more realistic experience (adult supervision required).

Station 4: Circle Walk (5 minutes):
Story Time: Tell a story about a happy train going around a track.
Movement Time: Hold hands or link arms and walk in a circle like a train. Change direction halfway through.
Variation: Play upbeat music and encourage students to "choo-choo" like the train while walking in circles.

Cool-Down (5 minutes):
Play calming music (optional).
Gentle stretches: Reach for the sky, touch your toes, and wiggle your hips.

Remember:
This lesson plan provides a framework for a fun and engaging introduction to movement pathways. By focusing on participation, creativity, and age-appropriate activities, your young learners will develop essential gross motor skills and a love for physical activity!

Variations

Pre-Nursery: Focus on simpler movements like walking forward, backward, and sideways.
Class 1-2: Introduce more challenging movements like hopping on one leg or walking on tiptoes.
Incorporate props: Use scarves or cones to create pathways or obstacles to navigate.

Coaching Tips

Focus on fun and participation: Create a positive and encouraging environment.
Demonstrate movements: Show the children how to do each movement before they try it themselves.
Offer positive reinforcement: Celebrate their efforts and progress.
Modify as needed: Adapt the movements or difficulty level based on age and ability.
Use storytelling: Engage children's imaginations with stories related to each movement.
Keep it short and sweet: Young children have shorter attention spans, so keep each station fun and brief.

Equipment/Material Required

Open space in the gym or playground (cones or markers optional)
