Two Square Bounce

Learning Outcomes

Students will practice throwing and catching a ball with one hand after one bounce.
Students will improve hand-eye coordination and reflexes.
Students will learn basic game rules and participate cooperatively.

Description Of Activity

Divide the playing area in half using cones or markers. This creates the "2 squares."

Basic Gameplay:
Divide students into pairs. Each pair stands on opposite sides of the dividing line.
One student starts with the ball and serves it underhand towards their partner. The ball must clear the dividing line and bounce once before the partner attempts to catch it.
The partner catches the ball after one bounce. Points are scored if the catch is successful.
Players take turns serving and catching.
Play continues for a set time or until a predetermined number of points is reached.

Safety Considerations:
Ensure enough space between players to avoid collisions.
Use a soft playground ball suitable for younger students.
Instruct students to throw and catch with one hand to avoid overexertion.
Encourage good sportsmanship and positive reinforcement during gameplay.

Variations

Advanced: Introduce jump ropes. Players must jump over their jump rope before throwing or catching the ball.
Team Play: Divide the class into teams of 3-4 players each. Teams stand on opposite sides of the court. One team serves, and all players on the receiving team have a chance to catch the ball. Points are awarded for successful catches.
Multiple Bounces: For younger students who are still developing catching skills, allow them to catch the ball after two bounces instead of one. Gradually decrease the allowed bounces as they improve.
Movement Restrictions: Confine players to a designated area within their square, promoting footwork and agility.
