Warm-up (5 minutes)
Light jog around the court: Students jog lightly around the perimeter of the court for 1 minute.
High knees: Students jog in place, bringing their knees up towards their chest for 30 seconds.
Butt kicks: Students jog in place, kicking their heels towards their buttocks for 30 seconds.
Arm circles: Students stand with feet shoulder-width apart and circle their arms forward and
backward for 30 seconds each.
Jumping jacks: Students perform jumping jacks for 30 seconds.
Ankle and wrist circles: Students stand with feet shoulder-width apart and circle their ankles and wrists in both directions for 30 seconds each.
Activity Description (25 minutes)
Introduction (5 minutes)
Explain the importance of the layup in basketball, emphasizing its high percentage shot and effectiveness in scoring points.
Demonstrate a proper layup from both the right and left side of the basket, emphasizing the footwork, body position, and finishing touch.
Footwork Drills (5 minutes)
Demonstrate the basic footwork pattern for a layup: the foot opposite the shooting hand steps first, followed by a jump off the same foot.
Practice the footwork pattern without the ball, focusing on balance and coordination.
Emphasize the importance of quick and decisive footwork.
Layup Drills (10 minutes)
Start with layups from close range to the basket.
Practice layups with both hands, focusing on the same form and finishing touch for each hand.
Gradually increase the distance from the basket as students improve.
Introduce layups from different angles, such as the right and left baseline.
Incorporate layups after receiving a pass from a partner.
Layup Games (5 minutes)
Divide students into teams of equal size.
Conduct layup contests focusing on accuracy and speed.
