Fadeaway Shot Fundamentals

Description Of Activity

Warm-up (5 minutes)
Light jog around the court: Get the blood flowing and muscles warmed up.
High knees: Focus on leg and core engagement.
Butt kicks: Improve flexibility and ankle mobility.
Arm circles forward and backward: Warm up the shoulders and upper body.
Jumping jacks: Increase heart rate and overall body activation.
Ankle circles: Improve ankle stability and flexibility.
Wrist circles: Prepare the wrists for shooting.

Activity Description (20 minutes)
Introduction (2 minutes)
Explain the fadeaway shot: Discuss its effectiveness in basketball, especially when guarded closely.
Demonstrate the correct form: Show a clear and slow-motion demonstration of a fadeaway shot, emphasizing key points like footwork, body angle, and ball release.

Demonstration (3 minutes)
Demonstrate from different angles: Show how the fadeaway can be executed from various positions on the court.
Emphasize key points:
Footwork and balance: Demonstrate how to position the feet for stability and leverage.
Body angle: Explain the importance of leaning back to create space and elevate the shot.
Ball handling: Show how to protect the ball and create a smooth shooting motion.
Release point: Emphasize a high release point for accuracy and power.
Follow-through: Demonstrate the importance of finishing the shot with a consistent follow-through.

Practice (15 minutes)
Divide students into pairs or small groups: Facilitate peer learning and support.
Stationary fadeaways:
Focus on creating space: Instruct students to lean back slightly while maintaining balance.
Emphasize a high release point: Encourage students to release the ball at the peak of their jump.
Practice with both hands: Develop ambidexterity for versatility.
Fadeaways with one or two dribbles:
