Activity
Players will understand the proper shooting technique for three-pointer shots.
Players will be able to demonstrate proper footwork and balance when shooting three-pointers.
Players will improve their accuracy and consistency when shooting three-pointers.
Warm-up (10 minutes)
Jogging laps around the court
Dynamic stretching (leg swings, arm circles, hip circles)
Ballistic stretching (jumping jacks, burpees)
Shooting warm-up (catch-and-shoot from different spots on the court)
Part 1: Shooting Technique (15 minutes)
Start by having players stand behind the three-point line with their feet shoulder-width apart.
Demonstrate proper shooting technique:
Square feet to the basket
Dominant foot forward
Knees slightly bent
Weight is evenly distributed between both feet
Elbow under the ball
Follow-through with fingers spread
Have players practice shooting with their dominant hand, focusing on proper technique.
Gradually increase the difficulty by adding movement (e.g., taking a step back or to the side).
Part 2: Footwork and Balance (15 minutes)
Set up cones or markers around the three-point line to create a "shooting lane."
Players start at one end of the lane and perform different footwork drills:
Carioca drill (alternating feet)
Lateral shuffles
Crossover steps
At the end of each drill, players shoot a three-pointer.
Emphasize maintaining balance throughout the footwork drills.
Part 3: Catch-and-Shoot (15 minutes)
Divide players into pairs or small groups.
One player passes to their teammate, who shoots a catch-and-shoot three-pointer.
Switch roles after each shot.
Gradually increase the difficulty by adding defenders or moving the passer.
Part 4: Game Situation Shooting (15 minutes)
Set up game-like scenarios:
End-of-game situations
Fast breaks
Ball reversal
Players take turns shooting three-pointers in these scenarios.
Emphasize decision-making and shot selection.
Cool Down (5 minutes)
Static stretching (hamstrings, quadriceps, chest)
For younger players or beginners:
Use shorter distances or smaller balls.
Focus on basic shooting techniques.
For advanced players:
Increase the difficulty of footwork drills.
Add more complex game scenarios.
Emphasize proper shooting techniques throughout the lesson.
Encourage players to stay balanced and focused.
Provide positive feedback and constructive criticism.
Use visual aids (e.g., videos or diagrams) to reinforce key concepts.
Basketball court
Basketballs
Cones or markers
