Activity
Students will be able to combine various leaping movements in a coordinated sequence.
Students will enhance their coordination and agility through the obstacle course.
Warm-Up (10 minutes):
Leg Swings (1.5 minutes): Students swing one leg forward and backward, then switch legs. This prepares the hips for dynamic movements.
Arm Circles (1.5 minutes): Extend arms to the sides and make circles, gradually increasing the size. Change directions halfway through.
High Knees (2 minutes): Jog in place, lifting knees towards the chest. This activates the legs and core.
Jumping Rope (5 minutes):
Instructions: Students use a jump rope, focusing on rhythm and coordination. Demonstrate proper techniqueholding handles, swinging the rope over the head, and jumping with feet together.
Obstacle Course Setup (5 minutes):
Components: Create an obstacle course with a variety of leaping elements, such as:
Boxes: For box jumps.
Cones: For weaving and hopping between.
Hurdles: For high jumps or over-the-hurdle leaps.
Additional Obstacles: Use items like agility ladders, low platforms, or hoops if available.
Demonstration (5 minutes):
Walkthrough: Show students how to navigate the course. Demonstrate each leaping movemente.g., jumping onto and off of boxes, hopping over hurdles, and weaving around cones.
Sequence: Explain how to transition smoothly between obstacles to maintain flow and momentum.
Individual or Pair Practice (10 minutes):
Practice: Students take turns or work in pairs to complete the obstacle course. Encourage them to focus on form, timing, and efficiency.
Experimentation: Allow students to try different combinations of leaps and approaches to the obstacles, adapting the course as needed for variety.
Cool Down (5 minutes):
Calf Stretches (1 minute): Have students place one foot on a raised surface and lean forward to stretch the calf. Switch legs after 30 seconds.
Hamstring Stretches (1 minute): Students sit with legs extended and reach for their toes. Hold the stretch for 30 seconds per leg.
Quadriceps Stretches (1 minute): Students stand and pull one foot towards their buttocks. Hold for 30 seconds per leg.
Deep Breathing Exercises (2 minutes):
Instructions: Guide students through deep breathinginhale deeply through the nose, hold for a few seconds, and exhale slowly through the mouth. This helps in recovery and relaxation.
Leaping Relays: Set up a relay race where teams must complete the obstacle course in sequence. This adds a competitive element and encourages teamwork.
Leaping Games: Create games that incorporate leaping, such as a “leap tag” where students must leap to tag others, or “leaping challenges” where they complete specific tasks within the course.
Skill Level: Ensure the course is challenging but safe for students’ skill levels. Adjust heights and distances as necessary.
Focus on Form: Remind students to maintain good form throughout the course, especially during leaps and landings.
Encouragement: Offer continuous feedback and praise. Help students adjust their techniques to improve performance.
Boxes, cones, hurdles, agility ladders, hoops (if available), and other obstacles.
