Develop the ability to use a step to indicate movement in one direction before going another.
Students stand facing a passive partner. They take a small step to the left (for example) as if to move that way, then quickly change direction and move to the right.
Step forward and then go sideways.
Step sideways and then go forward.
Combine the eye fake with the step fake.
Encourage a realistic-looking step in the initial direction.
Focus on a sharp change of direction after the fake step.
Keep the steps relatively small and quick.
