Crab Walk

Learning Outcomes

Description Of Activity

Students sit on the floor with their feet flat and hands placed behind them. On the teachers signal, they lift their hips off the ground to form the crab position. Students then move around the activity area using their hands and feet, keeping the hips elevated throughout the movement.

You can run the task in different formats:

Free Movement: Students move around the playing area without touching others.

Race Format: Students crab walk from start line to finish line.

Obstacle Path: Students follow a marked path, navigating cones or lines.

Tag Version: One student is it, trying to tag others while all players stay in crab walk position.Play follow the leader as you crab walk.

 

 

 

 

Variations

Challenge your child to a crab walk race over a short distance. If several children are present, play a game of tag in a confined area while crab walking. 

Equipment/Material Required

Cones or markers (to define space or obstacles)

Floor-safe area (indoor or outdoor)

Optional: small soft objects for balance challenges (e.g., beanbags to place on the stomach)
