Activity
Students will practice balancing with various body part combinations in pairs.
Students will develop core strength and proprioception (body awareness).
Students will work cooperatively to achieve a common goal.
Students will follow instructions and participate safely.
This activity involves pairs working together to find creative ways to balance using only a specific number of hands and feet (combined) while touching the ground.
Warm-Up (5 minutes):
Begin with light cardio exercises like jogging or jumping jacks followed by dynamic stretches focusing on core and back muscles.
Instruction :
Explain the concept of "3 Hands, 2 Feet." Both partners must be involved, using only the designated number of hands and feet (combined) to touch the ground.
Demonstrate a few basic poses (e.g., 3 hands, 2 feet with both partners placing a hand on the mat and one partner kneeling).
Emphasize the importance of communication and teamwork to achieve balance.
Balancing Challenge (20 minutes):
Divide students into pairs and provide each pair with a mat.
Call out different combinations of hands and feet (e.g., "3 hands, 2 feet!" or "1 hand, 1 foot!").
Encourage pairs to find creative and safe ways to balance together using the specified body parts.
Start with simple combinations and gradually progress to more challenging ones as students improve.
Hold each pose for a set time (start with a few seconds and increase as students get comfortable).
Cool-Down (5 minutes):
Perform gentle static stretches focusing on the back, core, and legs.
Have a brief discussion about the activity, highlighting the importance of balance and teamwork.
Themed Balances: Call out poses related to animals ("crab walk") or objects ("pyramid").
Freeze Game: Call out a combination and have pairs find their balance pose. Yell "Freeze!" and have pairs hold for a few seconds. Award points for creativity and successful balance.
Progression Challenge: Start with simple poses and gradually call out more complex combinations with specific hand or foot placement.
Safety First: Ensure the activity area is free of obstacles. Encourage communication and coordination to avoid collisions or falls.
Start Simple: Begin with easier poses and allow students to progress at their own pace.
Communication is Key: Encourage partners to talk and strategize to find successful balancing positions.
Celebrate Creativity: Acknowledge and reward pairs who come up with unique and creative ways to balance.
Offer Support: Provide spotting assistance, especially for more challenging poses.
Modify as Needed: Adapt the activity difficulty by offering variations or adjusting the number of hands and feet allowed based on students' abilities.
Mats (enough for all pairs)
Optional (for a visual cue): Cones or markers (outline body part placement)
