Cross Overs

Learning Outcomes

Perform cross-over running steps while maintaining balance and speed.

Improve agility, lateral movement, and multi-directional running.

Coordinate upper–lower body movement for fast transitions.

Enhance spatial awareness and change-of-direction ability.

Description Of Activity

Students run using cross-over steps instead of normal running steps. The right foot crosses over the left (or vice versa) while moving laterally or diagonally. The movement is fast, controlled, and continuous.

Steps:

Students start at a line/cone.

On the signal, they move sideways using cross-over running stepsright foot in front of left, then left in front of right.

Arms swing naturally to maintain balance.

Students continue cross-over running for a set distance, then jog back normally.

Variations

1. Lateral Cross Over Run

Move sideways across the court using cross-over steps only.

2. Zig-Zag Cross Over Run

Students follow a zig-zag of cones using cross-over running between angles.

3. Cross Over Sprint Relay

Teams race in relays using cross-over running to the marker and back.

4. Cross Over + Acceleration

Students do cross-over running for 10m → transition into a 10m sprint.

5. Cross Over Chase

One student runs sideways using cross-over steps, another tries to tag using normal running.

6. Circle Cross Over Run

Students run in a circle using cross-over steps while rotating around the circle.
