Eastern Grip Drills

Students will be able to execute basic forehand and backhand strokes using the Eastern grip.

Description Of Activity

Grip Review:
Quickly review the Eastern grip and its key characteristics.
Forehand Drills:
Have students practice hitting forehand groundstrokes against a wall or using a rebound net.
Focus on using the Eastern grip and making contact with the ball in front of their body.
Backhand Drills:
Have students practice hitting backhand groundstrokes against a wall or using a rebound net.
Focus on using the Eastern grip and making contact with the ball on the backhand side.
 

 

 

Variations

Have students practice hitting different types of shots (e.g., topspin, slice, flat) with the Eastern grip.
Introduce partner drills, such as short rallies and feeding drills.

Coaching Tips

Encourage students to keep their wrist loose and relaxed.
Emphasize the importance of making contact with the ball in front of their body for the forehand and on the backhand side for the backhand.
Provide feedback on grip position, stroke mechanics, and ball contact.
