Grip Comparison and Match Play

Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to compare and contrast the three main tennis grips.
Students will be able to apply the appropriate grip based on the shot they want to hit.

Description Of Activity

Grip Review:
Review the characteristics of each grip and discuss their strengths and weaknesses.
Grip Comparison Drills:
Have students practice hitting the same shot (e.g., forehand) with different grips to feel the differences in power, spin, and control.
Match Play:
Divide students into pairs and have them play short sets or points.
Encourage students to use different grips based on the shot they want to hit and the situation in the point.

Variations

Have students play different formats of tennis (e.g., singles, doubles) to experience different shot requirements.
Introduce more advanced techniques, such as drop shots, lobs, and volleys, and discuss the appropriate grip for each shot.

Coaching Tips

Encourage students to experiment with different grips and find the grip that works best for them.
Provide feedback on shot selection, grip choice, and overall strategy.
