Double Chance Pairs Cricket

Learning Outcomes

Batters in pairs to hit either a ball bowled or off a tee to score as many runs as possible

Description Of Activity

  1. Each pair bats for 2 overs (12 balls) & bowls for 2 overs (6 balls each partner). Bowling can be underarm if required
  2. When a partner is bowling, another partner wicket keeps
  3. If the bowled ball is missed (& doesn't hit the stumps) or can't be reached, the batter hits the ball from a tee of their choice
  4. Only the hit ball is in play
  5. Batters can be out Bowled, Caught, or Run Out only
  6. If Batsman is out, they swap ends & continue to Bat
  7. If pairs are not batting or bowling they are fielding
  8. All get a chance to Bat, field & keep the wickets

 

Variations

  1. Match evenly skilled players to bat/bowl to each other.
  2. Place 1-2 fielders in slips to create more gaps.

 

Coaching Tips

Encourage good sportsmanship (e.g. clapping when good efforts are made, shaking hands, accepting the umpire's decision, etc.

Equipment/Material Required

  • 2 Bats
  • 3 balls
  • 2 tees/saucer cone and 2 stumps
  • Set up
  1. Set up stumps 13 16m apart
  2. Place 2 batting tees with a ball on each either side of the pitch just forward of batter
  3. Organize players into pairs & number each pair
  4. Maximum 8 per group
