Stopping Techniques

Description Of Activity

  • Warm-up: Begin with light jogging or marching in place to warm up the muscles.
  • T-Stop: Demonstrate the T-stop technique, where the skater brings one foot across the other to create friction and slow down.
  • Snowplow Stop: Demonstrate the snowplow stop, where the skater brings their feet together in a V-shape to slow down.
  • Practice: Have students practice both stopping techniques, focusing on balance and control.
  • Cool-down: End with a light stretch, holding each stretch for 10-15 seconds.

Coaching Tips

Encourage students to keep their weight centered over their feet.
