Leg Spin Bowling Drill

Learning Outcomes

Learn the basic technique for leg spin bowling.
Understand how to spin the ball and control line and length.
Develop wrist action for turning the ball effectively.

Description Of Activity

The coach demonstrates the basic grip for leg spin, with the ball held between the thumb and index finger, and the wrist used to impart spin on the ball.
Players will practice delivering leg-spin balls, focusing on wrist action and seam orientation.
The session will focus on getting the ball to turn either into or away from the batsman, depending on wrist position.

Variations

Begin with slow-paced deliveries or underarm bowling to help players focus on wrist movement and accuracy.
Add a batter or targets (cones) on the offside or leg side to challenge the accuracy of spin deliveries.
Practice the top-spinner or googly as variations of the leg-spin.

Coaching Tips

Emphasize the importance of a strong, flicking wrist action to generate turn.
Bowlers should practice getting the seam upright and ensure the ball spins in the air and off the pitch.
Encourage bowlers to vary the flight and speed to keep the batsman guessing.

Equipment/Material Required

Cricket balls
Stumps or wickets for targets
Cones or markers to simulate areas for spin delivery
