Yorker Bowling Drill

Learning Outcomes

Learn the correct technique for bowling yorkers.
Understand how to execute yorkers accurately.
Improve control over length and line, particularly in the death overs.

Description Of Activity

The coach demonstrates the basic grip and technique for bowling yorkers, focusing on delivering the ball at the base of the stumps or just inside the crease.
Players will practice bowling yorkers to specific target areas: the stumps, middle of the crease, or wide of off-stump.
Emphasis will be placed on consistency and accuracy, particularly in delivering yorkers under pressure.

Variations

Introduce a batter to increase the pressure and simulate match conditions.
Set up cones or markers at different areas on the pitch to challenge accuracy.
Bowl slower yorkers to focus on variation in pace.

Coaching Tips

Encourage bowlers to keep their wrist firm and release the ball with pace.
Remind players to aim for the base of the stumps, where the batsman is less likely to play an attacking shot.
Bowlers should practice their follow-through to ensure they maintain a consistent line and length.

Equipment/Material Required

Cricket balls
Cones or markers for target areas
Stumps or wickets for simulating the base of the stumps
