Wicketkeeping Catching and Stumping Drill

Learning Outcomes

Learn the basic skills required for wicketkeeping, including catching and stumping.
Improve quick reactions and hand-eye coordination.
Understand the positioning for effective stumpings.

Description Of Activity

The coach demonstrates proper wicketkeeping stance, positioning the hands in front of the body and maintaining a low, balanced posture.
Players will practice catching balls from both fast and spin bowlers.
Focus on keeping the hands relaxed and soft when catching, and practicing stumpings by anticipating the batters movement out of the crease.

Variations

Start with slow, easy deliveries or a tennis ball for beginners.
Use a batter who will attempt to step out of the crease to practice stumpings under pressure.
Add a challenge by increasing the speed of deliveries or adding a spinner for varied bounces.

Coaching Tips

Emphasize the importance of keeping the head still and eyes on the ball.
Remind players to keep their gloves in front of their body and avoid letting the ball pass them.
For stumpings, encourage players to focus on quick hands and precision when breaking the stumps.

Equipment/Material Required
