Activity
Students will work together to move a colorful parachute while walking in a circle, following instructions to build teamwork and have fun!
Gross Motor Skills: Walking, moving in a circle, and lifting the parachute helps strengthen physical coordination.
Teamwork: The children must work together to make the parachute move and follow instructions.
Listening Skills: Following verbal cues and working as a group encourages listening and communication.
Gather the students: Have the children stand in a circle around the parachute. Each child should hold the edge of the parachute with both hands.
Basic Movement: On the count of three, the children will gently lift the parachute up and then let it fall back down to the ground.
Walk Around the Parachute: Now, while holding the parachute, tell the students to walk around in a circle (slowly, so they dont trip). As they walk, the parachute will move around them.
Stop & Go: At random moments, call out “Stop!” and everyone must freeze while still holding the parachute. Then, say “Go!” to continue.
Change Direction: Occasionally, ask the children to switch directions and walk the other way.
Wave the Parachute: Instruct the children to make waves by lifting and lowering the parachute at the same time (this will make it float up and down).
End the Activity: After a few minutes, stop the walking and play a “parachute dance” where everyone shakes the parachute as fast as they can to create fun, bouncy movements!
Encourage them to match their pace with the others.
Remind them to walk steadily and hold the parachute firmly.
