Kick to the Goal Challenge

Learning Outcomes

Perform basic football kicking with proper technique.

Improve accuracy by aiming at a target (goal).

Develop balance while kicking with dominant and non-dominant foot.

Understand basic rules of safe kicking.

Description Of Activity

Set up a small goal using cones or markers.

Students stand 58 metres away (distance according to age).

Place one football in front of the kicking line.

One student comes forward, takes a short run-up, and tries to kick the ball into the goal.

After the kick, the student retrieves the ball and goes to the end of the line.

Each successful goal = 1 point.

Continue until all students complete 35 kicks each.

Technique to Teach:

Plant non-kicking foot beside the ball.

Kick using the laces (instep) for power or inside of the foot for accuracy.

Keep eyes on the ball and follow through toward goal.

Variations

Moving Goalkeeper: Teacher or a student stands as a soft, safe goalkeeper.

Small Goals Round: Reduce width of the goal to increase challenge.

Left Foot Challenge: Must kick using non-dominant foot.

Rolling Ball Kick: Teacher rolls the ball slowly, and student kicks a moving ball.

Team Challenge: Divide into teams — teams try to score maximum goals in 3 minutes.

Coaching Tips

Emphasize ankle lock and follow-through.

Encourage students to aim for corners of the goal.

Ensure other children stand safely behind the kicking line.

Give simple cues: “Eyes on ball – plant foot – swing – follow through”.

Equipment/Material Required

1–3 soft footballs

4–6 cones (for goal and kicking line)

Whistle (optional)
