Roll & Go

Learning Outcomes

Develops hand–eye coordination by rolling and guiding the ball.

Improves fine and gross motor skills through controlled pushing.

Enhances spatial awareness and ability to judge distance.

Builds focus, control, and aim when rolling toward a target.

Encourages movement, exploration, and confidence with manipulatives.

Description Of Activity

Give each child a small soft ball.

Mark a start line using cones.

On the signal, children roll the ball forward using a gentle push.

They run or walk to collect it, return to the start line, and roll again.

Students repeat this several times, trying to keep the ball rolling straight and controlled.

Introduce challenges like:

Roll to a cone target

Roll to a zone marked by hoops or chalk

Roll the ball around a simple path

Variations

Partner Roll & Go: Roll to a friend and they roll it back.

Roll & Go Race: Roll to a line, collect the ball, run back.

Roll the Curve: Children roll the ball along a curved chalk line.

Hit the Target: Roll to knock down a cone or plastic bottle.

Roll & Stop: Roll the ball and try to stop it with one foot.

Coaching Tips

Encourage students to bend knees and push the ball gently with two hands.

Remind them to keep eyes on the ball to guide direction.

Teach the difference between a soft roll and a strong roll.

Ensure enough space between children to avoid collisions.

Praise effort and control rather than speed.
