Activity
Develop correct pivoting technique (front and reverse pivots).
Improve use of ball fakes and shot fakes.
Build confidence in creating space against defenders.
Enhance footwork, balance, and decision-making.
Players form a line at the wing or top of the key.
Each player has a ball (or 1 ball shared, rotating).
Execution:
Player catches the ball (imaginary pass from coach).
Immediately establishes a pivot foot (cannot move this foot).
Perform a pivot (front pivot or reverse pivot) while keeping ball protected.
Add a fake:
Shot Fake: Bend knees, lift ball slightly as if to shoot.
Pass Fake: Look and fake pass before pivoting.
Drive Fake: Jab step, then pivot opposite.
After fake, player performs a move:
Drive to the basket for a layup.
Take one dribble pull-up jump shot.
Pass to a target (if practicing passing out of pivot).
Rotation:
After the move, player gets rebound, passes back to coach, and goes to end of the line.
With Defender: Add a live or passive defender applying pressure.
Multiple Pivots: Require one front pivot, then reverse pivot before attacking.
Time Limit: Player has 3 seconds to pivot, fake, and attack (simulating game rules).
Combo Moves: Example: Pivot → Shot Fake → Dribble Drive → Finish.
Keep pivot foot planted and avoid traveling.
Stay low and balanced during pivot and fake.
Use eyes and shoulders to sell the fake, not just the ball.
After fake, explosively attack the open space.
Teach players to protect the ball on pivots (keep it away from defender’s hands).
Basketballs (1 per 2–3 players).
Cones (optional to mark spots on the floor).
Basket/hoop.
