Learning Outcomes

Perform a leap with correct take-off and landing technique.

Maintain balance while traveling across space using long, stretched strides.

Improve leg strength, coordination, and spatial awareness.

Demonstrate safe landing by bending knees and controlling the body.

Description Of Activity

Students move through the activity area performing leaps (take off from one foot land on the other).
Teacher sets a pathway or scattered markers for students to leap over:

Students start behind a line.

Take a long step and push off strongly from one foot.

Extend arms and legs in the air while traveling forward.

Land softly on the opposite foot with a bent knee.

Continue leaping in a sequence or pathway.

Switch lead legs frequently.

This activity helps build dynamic movement and confidence in large locomotor motions.

Variations

1. Cone-to-Cone Leaps

Leap between spaced cones or floor spots.

2. Obstacle Leaping

Leap over small foam blocks, ropes, or floor lines.

3. Leap & Freeze

Leap and freeze on landing until the next signal.

4. Partner Leaping

Leap side-by-side with a partner, matching stride and rhythm.

5. Animal Leaps

Frog leaps, deer leaps, or giant superhero leaps for fun engagement.

6. Leaping Relay

Teams leap to a marker and return using controlled leaping.

Coaching Tips

Push off from the ball of the foot.

Keep arms swinging to help with balance.

Land softly with knees bent.

Maintain straight body posture during flight.
