Activity
Students will learn to kick a stationary ball with power.
Students will improve balance, coordination, and running approach technique.
Students will understand how to aim and kick toward a target.
Students will develop confidence in kicking for distance.
Introduction Stationary Kick
Ask each child to place the ball on the ground.
Instruct them to take one step back and kick the ball as hard as they can, trying to send it far away.
Children retrieve their balls and repeat 23 times.
Progression Running Kick
After students understand kicking for distance, ask them to take several steps back.
They will run toward the ball and kick it with more power.
This helps them learn momentum and proper approach.
Target & Challenge
Place cones/markers 1012 yards away (adjust based on class level).
Give students a target to aim for:
Try to kick the ball past the cones!
Show me how far you can kick!
Students attempt multiple kicks, trying to beat their previous distance.
Direction Practice
Cones can be placed as a lane so children kick in a safe and clear direction.
This supports accuracy and safety.
As children get the basic concept of kicking far and hard ask that they travel throughout the grassy area continually kicking their ball. Kick your ball far and then run up and kick it again.
Encourage students to keep their eyes on the ball.
Use the inside of the foot or laces for more powerful kicks.
Remind them to swing their kicking leg fully.
Check spacing to ensure safe kicking distance between students.
