Learning Outcomes

Athletes will be able to establish a consistent and accelerating approach run.
Athletes will develop a sense of rhythm and stride length for their initial steps.
Athletes will learn to hit a designated marker accurately.

Description Of Activity

Setup: Mark a starting point on the track. Measure out 10 strides (approximately 15-20 meters, adjust based on athlete's age/ability) and place a cone or marker at the end of the 10th stride.
Execution: Athletes start from the marked starting point and perform their long jump approach run, focusing on a gradual acceleration.
Focus: The goal is to hit the cone precisely on their 10th stride, indicating consistent rhythm and stride length.

Variations

Vary the starting distance to practice different approach lengths.
Add a small hurdle or marker to step over at the 10th stride to simulate takeoff.
