Activity
Athletes will improve their ability to convert horizontal momentum into vertical lift.
Athletes will develop explosive power in their takeoff leg.
Athletes will practice a controlled and balanced landing.
Setup: Place a low plyometric box (or sturdy bench) a few feet in front of a sand pit or soft landing area.
Execution: Athletes approach the box with a short run (3-5 strides), take off from one leg just before the box, and aim to "pop up" over the box, landing in the sand pit with both feet.
Focus: Emphasize a powerful drive of the free leg and arms upwards, and a quick, active plant of the takeoff foot. The landing should be soft, with knees bent and hips back.
Increase the height of the box gradually.
Reduce the approach run to focus purely on takeoff mechanics.
