Description Of Activity
- Create a large activity area using 6 cones.
- Divide the space in half with 3 cones:
- One side = Minor League
- One side = Major League
- Students begin scattered on the Minor League side with their ropes.
- Students face one another with safe spacing for rope turning.
- Match Me If You Can is a head-to-head skipping rope challenge.
- Students pair up on the Minor League side.
- Partners play RockPaperScissors (RPS) to decide who goes first.
- On the teachers GO!, Partner 1 attempts to complete 15 consecutive jumps.
- Partner 2 then attempts 15 consecutive jumps.
- If both partners reach 15 jumps, play RPS again to decide the winner.
- The partner with the most consecutive jumps moves to the Major League side and finds a new partner.
- The other partner stays in the Minor League and finds a new partner.
- Major League Play
- When two students compete on the Major League side:
- The winner stays and earns 1 Major League point.
- The other student returns to the Minor League side to try again.
- Rules / Safety
- Jumps must be consecutive (no resets).
- Safe spacing at all times.
- Self-turn ropes only.
- Honest counting and fair play are encouraged.
Variations
Easy: Play the game as described.
Hard: On the Major League side, students must include at least one skipping rope trick within the 15 jumps.
Challenge:
Students work in pairs to create a 16-count skipping rope routine.
A competing pair must match the routine.
Allow planning time before play.
