Leap the River

Learning Outcomes

To practise leaping from one foot to the other with balance and control.

Description Of Activity

Create short river lines on the ground.

Keep rivers narrow for Prep students.

Children line up with safe spacing.

Children pretend there is a river on the ground.

One at a time, they leap over the river.

Take off from one foot and land on the other foot.

Land softly with knees bent and arms out for balance.

Walk back and repeat.

Variations

Make the river slightly wider

Leap over two rivers in a row

Call “Left foot” or “Right foot” to change take-off leg

Chalk / tape / rope (to make “rivers”)
