Promotes footwork and body positioning for effective ball collection.
This dynamic drill focuses on refining a player's ability to collect footballs at their feet. Players practice receiving passes from various directions and speeds, improving their first touch, reaction time, and overall ball control skills.
Warm-Up (5 minutes):
Begin with light jogging, dynamic stretches, and basic dribbling exercises to prepare the body for movement.
Instruction (5 minutes):
Explain the importance of controlling the ball at your feet for setting up attacks and maintaining possession in football.
Demonstrate the drill setup and proper receiving technique: good first touch, body positioning to shield the ball, and awareness of surroundings.
Emphasize the importance of calling for the ball and communicating with teammates.
Drill Practice (15-20 minutes):
Option 1: Partner Passing (No Cones):
Divide players into pairs, standing at a comfortable distance facing each other.
One player starts with the ball and passes it to their partner at various speeds and directions.
The receiving player focuses on controlling the ball with a good first touch, using the appropriate part of their foot depending on the speed and direction of the pass.
Players switch roles after a set number of passes.
Option 2: Feeder Drill (With Cones):
Set up cones in a circle or scattered around the playing area.
One player acts as the feeder, positioned outside the circle/area with several footballs.
The other players stand inside the circle/area, moving around to create space and calling for the ball.
The feeder passes the ball to players from different directions and distances, simulating realistic game situations.
Players focus on controlling the ball with a good first touch, adjusting their body position and using appropriate footwork based on the pass.
Additional Tips:
Play upbeat music in the background to create a fun and engaging atmosphere (optional).
Provide positive reinforcement and celebrate successful ball collection techniques.
Encourage players to practice their first touch control outside of class to improve their overall ball control skills.
Speed Drills: Increase the speed of passes to challenge players' reaction time and control.
Directional Drills: The feeder calls out directions (left, right, etc.) before passing, encouraging players to anticipate and adjust their movement.
Pressure Drills: Introduce a defender who tries to pressure the player receiving the pass, making it more game-like and requiring quicker decision-making.
Cool-Down (5 minutes): Lead the students through gentle stretches focusing on legs, core, and shoulders to cool down after the activity.
Emphasize a soft first touch to control the ball effectively.
Encourage players to use different parts of their foot (inside, outside, laces) depending on the pass situation.
Focus on proper body positioning to shield the ball from defenders.
Promote good awareness of surroundings and communication with teammates for calling for the ball.
Provide individual feedback and corrections on first touch control and body positioning.
