Learning Outcomes

Students will learn about the layers of earth and its name precisely.

And along they will learn about different types of rocks, how they are formed and where it can be found.

Description Of Activity

Game-

Handball

 

Just like Handball game, Earth has 5 layers to reach at core. And it’s supposed to be a coincidence precisely.

Now for the better understanding of layer of earths, students can learn it by handball game. And all you have to do is change the name of the areas in handball court (which is only half of the court).

All we have to do is change the names of the handball court lines and spaces names to the layers of earth, as showed in the diagram.

The centre line of the court is Crust.

The distance between Centre line and 9m line is Lithosphere.

The 7m line is Mantle.

The Goal area line is Core-Mantle boundary.

The 6m line area is Outer Core.

And at last, the goal area is Inner core.

Variations

Likewise, they will always think of earth layers while playing the game. Apart from that, students have to learn what each layer is made up of. If possible, try to use different sand/soil at each layer.

The idea of relating the names of layer with the handball court will help students in getting creative and connecting things around to the study material.
