Description Of Activity

How to Play

History of chess
Chess is believed to have been invented 1500 years ago in India. The game has changed only slightly since then with the advent of the queen in the 15th century and some minor movement adjustments in the 1800s.

Chess game goal
The ultimate aim in the chess game is delivering a checkmate trapping your opponents king. The term checkmate is an alteration of the Persian phrase Shah Mat, meaning literally, the King is ambushed, and not the King is dead, that is a common misconception.

Chess moves
King can move exactly one square horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. At most once in every game, each king is allowed to make a special move, known as castling.
Queen can move any number of vacant squares diagonally, horizontally, or vertically.
Rook can move any number of vacant squares vertically or horizontally. It also is moved while castling.
Bishop can move any number of vacant squares in any diagonal direction.
Knight can move one square along any rank or file and then at an angle. The knights movement can also be viewed as an L or 7 laid out at any horizontal or vertical angle.

Pawns can move forward one square, if that square is unoccupied. If it has not yet moved, the pawn has the option of moving two squares forward provided both squares in front of the pawn are unoccupied. A pawn cannot move backward. Pawns are the only pieces that capture differently from how they move. They can capture an enemy piece on either of the two spaces adjacent to the space in front of them (i.e., the two squares diagonally in front of them) but cannot move to these spaces if they are vacant. The pawn is also involved in the two special moves en passant and promotion.

How to do the Activity

The whole class room  divided into  different  Tribal societies like Santals, Mundas , Koyas, Banjaras Gonds etc each group led by one leader .

One group students act like East India company leaders There is a compitition  between  The tribal Group leade Birsa Munda and East India Comany Officials On the Issue of Forest Law Tribals were not allowed to Grazing theire animals, not allowing to collect forest products, cutting of logs and Jhum  cultivation(Two sports can be introduced by teacher  Archery and shooting ) or chess game  for colonial government Rules can be made flexible and for

Tribals Rigid rules For example in chess game  solder by using said rules sepoy coin can move bouble steps but Tribal leader move one step  and other coins like elephant, hourse camele ,king and Minister can shuffle their coins at any movent while game on but the same was not allowed to Tribals so there is no scope to win the game by Tribals through this activity  game we can teach the students that how British officials took advantage from tribals and also How this tribal groups lost their rightes on the forest and their livelihood.

Here we can ask the students to play the role of different coins of chess (In the place of chess coins students can stand in a box and make a movement as for game rule )

Variations

How the Colonial Government misuse their powers  on tibals  with Rigid and flexble Rules imposed on Indian tribals  draw them away from their rights  another sport like Archery can be introduced while teaching Forest Law conpect  by changing New Rules in this for example (To hit the target three chances for British people One chance for Tribals  If the tibals lost the game they have to leave the forest for British if they win they can continue their life in forest  but Game rules once again Flexible for Britishers and Rigid rules for Indian )  students can be motivated to prepare their own arrows and bows by using bamboos or local availble wood  along with subject concept they also learn life skills with spors and games

Coaching Tips

Students can make learning Tribal lesson fun by preparing Charts and posters for improvement events ,facts and important Tribal leaders figures Important dates defination of some important terms data etc  They can also practice Map questions  students not only learn subject concept but also learn the life style of Tribals and their livelihood .
