How to Play

Joints in the body can be taught through play

1Cricket game Students are divided into 11 fielders, 2 umpire and 2 batsman. They can play cricket and others to observe. When a student is bowling a ball, he uses ball and socket joint to rotate the arm. While batting he uses, shoulder bones, finger bones and elbow jointBowling a ball and batting

Students are asked to assemble in the ground. A running race of 100 m can be conducted. Others can also observe. They use hip joint, knee joint and ankle joint to run

Pivotal joint

( neck)

40 students are asked to sit on the yoga mat or on the floor and they are asked to move their head towards left, right, backward, forward and neck rotation clockwise and anticlockwise. Students can identify the type of joint in their neck

4.Fixed joint

All students are taken to the ground and lemon and spoon game could be conducted. Students understand that, lemon kept in a spoon can be held only by using mouth where, lower jaw bone has movable joint, whereas other joints in the head are immovable

5Hinge jointStudents are asked to lift suitable weight. The Joint used for lifting weight is Hinge joint  at elbowsWeight lifting
6Gliding joint

Hockey sticks and ball can be given to students and students can be encouraged to play. While playing they can observe that the joints in the wrist and while running for the ball, joints in the ankle are used. When students are dribbling the ball in hockey by moving the hockey stick over and back, gliding joint can be explained.

Coaching Tips

Children are given practice of cricket, hockey, running, yoga, lemon and spoon game and the types of bones and joints used in different activities are elicited from them only which make the learning fruitful

Cricket ball, bat, weight, Hockey stick and ball, lemon and spoon. All activities can be conducted in ground
