Through the study of data handling the learners develops the skills to collect, organise, display, analyze and interpret information.
The learners will develop a sense of how mathematics can be used to manipulate data to represent or misrepresent trends and patterns.
With the help of broad jump players learn to calculate mean, mode, median.
HOW TO CALCULATE MEAN, MEDIAN, MODE?
1) Firstly all students are asked to stand or sit in a row.
2) One by one each player will be called to take jump.
3) Teachers will take the measurement of distance achieved by the student.
HOW TO TAKE JUMP?
1) After a player is called , he is supposed to stand behind the starting mark.
2) Both the feet should be touching the ground properly.
3) The starting line should not be crossed or cut by the player's feet at starting point.
4) As the teacher says go, the player will take a jump and will land on the pit or mat which is given.
5) Then the measurement will be taken by the teacher from he starting mark line to the landng position.
6) After collecting all data teacher will teach how to calculate mean median and mode.
MEAN-
Mean is the summation of total measured numbers divided by total numbers of players.
Mean= sum of all the measurements/ no. of players
MEDIAN-
Median is the middle no. in a sorted , ascending or descending list of numbers and can be more descriptive of that data set than the average.,
ex- 1,3,3,6,7,8,9
median= 6
MODE-
The mode is the value that appears most frequent in the data set.
2,4,5,5,5,6,7
mode= 5
Trials of other activities can also be taken to calculate mean mode median such as-
Long jump, High jump, Triple jump, push ups, sit ups etc..
Teachers should promote students for maximum no. of participation to understand the concept of mean median mode . As more no. of students means more numbers to play with which eventually make learning as a fun process.
And by doing this students not only are engaged is the mental understanding but also the physical development also takes place hand in hand.
