Description Of Activity

How to play

Activity 1.  Improve dribbling at high speed and handle pressure.

  1. Line up all your players in each corner. For an added challenge you can require players to use their weak hand exclusively or dribble with two basketballs.
  2.  On "go" players sprint at the cones as fast as possible and "zig zag" to each cone. Both lines start at the same time and almost all your players on the team will be doing the drill simultaneously. Players must keep their head up to avoid running into each other.
  3. Players must change direction at each cone and go as fast as possible.
  4. The coach can stand in the line of traffic and run towards different players trying to steal the ball. This really forces players perform game like moves (otherwise they'll turn it over).

Activity 2. Full court zig-zag

  1. Start from one corner dribbling with the left hand, make a crossover move at the elbow, half court sideline, far elbow, far corner, dribble along the baseline, repeat coming back from the opposite corner, do one or two laps, repeat with between the legs, behind the back, and spin (or reverse) dribble.
  2. Option - pullback dribble with change of direction (crossover, between the legs).
Angie Johnston - mini zig-zag - one dribble between each move (cross, between, behind).
Ray Lobar - full court head's up - in a full court dribble drill, coach stands up court, when he shows his target hands the dribbler must pass and cut to the basket for a return pass.

Activity 3. Train game

  1. Assemble of students on the ground
  2. Teachers divides group in to A B  C  D , each having 10 students
  3. A Zig Zag path is drawn on the ground
  4. Each group members are asked the line up and hold the shoulder of their team mate to form long chain
  5. Teacher asks the students to move on path like train
  6. Teacher compares the time taken by each group to complete the race and the group which covers in less time is declared as winner
  7. Teacher compares the movement of snake with that of train game
  8. Students learn about the skeletal structure of snake and understands how snake moves without leg.
