Learning Outcomes

1. Students will be able to understand the layered structure of earth.
2. Students will remember the series of the layers of earth name accordingly.
3. Students will be able to draw and label the diagrams.
4. Will understand about different type of rocks and their properties.
5. Will understand the process of formation of rocks.

Description Of Activity

How to play

1. Just like Handball game, Earth has 5 layers to reach at core. And its supposed to be a coincidence precisely.
2. Now for the better understanding of layer of earths, students can learn it by handball game. And all you have to do is change the name of the areas in handball court (which is only half of the court).
3. All we have to do is change the names of the handball court lines and spaces names to the layers of earth, as showed in the diagram.
4. The centre line of the court is Crust.
5. The distance between Centre line and 9m line is Lithosphere.
6. The 7m line is Mantle.
7. The Goal area line is Core-Mantle boundary.
8. The 6m line area is Outer Core.
9. And at last, the goal area is Inner core.
10. Make sure when students play the game, they remember the changed names and series of the ground pattern.

Variations

1. All that you have to do is change the name of the lines and spaces of the handball court.
2. The centre line of the court is Crust.

Coaching Tips

1. Ensure every student take part in the game. You can divide the team according to the number of students in your class.
2. Students who might not play may role as a referee. Or they can watch too, to cheer up the players.
3. Mark the lines of ground with lime.
4. Ensure students are referring the lines or space by the name of layer of the Earth.
5. And their goal has to be the Core of the Earth. i.e; Goal area.

 

 

Equipment/Material Required

Likewise, all the equipment's needed to be in a Handball game are required, Teaming the students,Lime for the ground,Handball,Net for the Goal area.
