Description Of Activity

1. Select the atleast 10 students.

2. Stand them in a straight horizontal line side by side facing towards the east side.

3. Consider the left hand of each student is the North pole and right hand is the South pole of the student.

4. Unlike poles of magnet attract each other and like poles repel each other. 

5. One student can hold left hand (North pole) of other student by his right hand (South pole), without changing their positions - indicate the attraction.

6.  But the student cannot hold the other student's left hand (North pole) with his left hand (North pole) without changing their position - indicate the repulsion.

7. Attraction/Repulsion property can be explained by this activity.

Variations

We can also use toys to verify the attraction/repulsion property of magnet.

Coaching Tips

Student should stand in straight line and their place should should not be changed.

Equipment/Material Required

Magnet, rope, white powder for marking, wooden scale, etc.
