Students practise forming the correct grip and getting into the correct batting stance using step-by-step cues. They repeat the sequence until they can do it smoothly and confidently.
Grip Setup
Make a V-shape with thumb and forefinger on both hands.
Place dominant hands V along the bats back ridge.
Place non-dominant hands V slightly toward the outside edge.
Hold bat relaxed not too tight.
Stance Setup
Stand side-on to the bowler.
Feet shoulder-width apart, on either side of the popping crease.
Knees slightly bent; weight on the balls of your feet.
Head steady, eyes level, looking at bowler.
Tap bat behind back foot to feel wicket position.
Repeat 5 times to build consistency.
For beginners (Class 3–5):
Practise with plastic bats.
Teacher models grip; students copy (“Follow the grip”).
Use mirror practice so students see themselves.
For intermediate (Class 6–8):
Add “quick stance” — students get into stance on teacher’s command.
Grip check partner activity.
For advanced (Class 9–12):
Add throwdowns after stance to test readiness.
Grip/stance correction under light pressure.
