Activity
-To differentiate between the sun and the Planets.
-To understand the positioning of the Planets from the Sun.
-To understand the orbits of the planets.
-To understand the movement of the meteroites and asteroids.
The game is a modified version of the conventional ice and water game.
According to the strength of the class, the class may be divided into 13-14 students. Each student shall be assigned a specific celestial body:
The Sun
TEAM A
Eight planets
Two asteroids
TEAM B
Two meteorites
PROCEDURE
- The aim of the game is for the eight planets to protect the sun from the meteorites and asteroids who have the power to freeze by throwing a ball at the planet and the Sun.
-The planets protect the sun from the asteroids and meteorites; once the asteroids or the meteorites throw a ball at the sun Team A loses.
RULES AND THE PROCEDURE FOR THE GAME:
-The sun stands in the middle and the eight planets stand around it according to their distance from the sun. The sun and the eight planets play in as one team.
- 2 meteoroids and two asteroids play as another team.
-8 circles have to be drawn by chalk or lime powder around the sun depicting the 8 orbits of the planets.
-The entire game play will take place for 15 min unless the sun freezes before 15 mins.
-Once the game starts the asteroids and meteoroids strategise against freezing the sun.
-The planets in their orbits will try to protect the sun from getting hit by the ball and at the same time protecting themselves too by dodging the ball.
-The planets at anytime cannot leave their respective orbit, doing so will lead to the disqualification of the player.
-The meteoroids and the asteroids will have 1 ball in total and will have to keep passing the ball to each and hit according to their strategy.
-In the process of protecting the sun if some planets get hit, they will freeze for 1 minute.
-The Sun can dodge the ball but without entering the orbit.
- The positioning of the students of team A and team B can be seen in the diagram.
The students may wear a placard of the names of the planets they have been assigned. Students may be given a football or volleyball to play.
-Before starting the game, the teacher must teach the positioning of the various planets.
-Various movements of planets can be discussed.
one stopwatch, one ball, chalk/ lime powder and whistle.
