Learning Outcomes

1.       Understanding the types of charges.

2.       To know the positive and negative charges.

3.       To get acquainted with the properties of charges and their interaction.

4.       To know the magnitude of charge during lightening & lightning caused by attraction of unlike charges.

Description Of Activity

1.       All the students go to the ground and stand in a horizontal line facing each other.

2.       Each student  take balloon, woollen cloth, straw and polythene.

3.       Now, all students take a balloon rub with woollen cloth and two student should face each other with balloons to show the repulsion (during rubbing of balloons both the balloons acquire similar charges while rubbing with woollen cloth)

4.       All the students take a straw and polythene and rub the straw with polythene and two student should face each other with their respective straws to show the repulsion (during the rubbing of straws, straws acquire similar charges).

5.       From paired students, one student take balloon and rub with woollen cloth and another student take a straw and rub with polythene. Both of them bring the balloon and refill near each other to show attraction (both of them acquire different charges while rubbing with different material).

6.       Types of charges and their interactions, like charges repel each other and unlike charges attract each other can be explain by this activity.

Variations

We can use other articles like comb and hair, glass rod and silk cloth to verify the attraction of charges.

Coaching Tips

Students should stand in two horizontal straight rows so that two students in each column can face each other handling materials (balloon, straw).
