Description Of Activity

1) These activities can be conducted in group or in pair 

2)A book , smooth and irregular surfaced wooden plank is taken 

3) The students are asked to move a book on both smooth and rough surfaced wooden  plancks 

4))The students asked to note in which case opposition to the motion of book is greater 

Variations

In everyday life we observe that the motion in rough surface is harder than motion in a smooth surface due to the presence of irregularities on the  rough surface 

Coaching Tips

-Friction is caused due to the presence of irregularities between the object in motion and surface 

-Friction is beneficial as well as harmful

-By making surface of motion smooth, friction can be greatly reduced
