Running In A Different Size Of right Angle Triangle

Learning Outcomes

  1. Know which triangle is right angled and which is not.
  2. Learn that the side opposite to the right angle is the hypotenuse of the triangle.
  3. Learn that the hypotenuse is the longest side among the other two sides of the triangle in every situation.
  4. Learn how to calculate the unknown side of the right angle triangle by using the Pythagoras property.
  5. Use the Pythagoras property in daily life situations also.
  6. Develop the cooperation among themselves.
  7. Develop cardiovascular Endurance.
  8. Develop communication with all.

Description Of Activity

How to Play

  1. Teacher asks the students to play a game in the ground.
  2. Teacher draws the different types of the triangle in the ground with the help of students.
  3. Teacher marks the points on every side of the triangle with a gap of one foot.
  4. Now teacher asks the students that they have to stand in along the side of the triangle.
  5. When the music starts students have to run in the clockwise direction or anticlockwise direction as per the given command.
  6. When the music stops students have to stand in between the mark mentioned in the ground not on the mark.
  7. Students who did not get the place in between the mark will come out of the game.
  8. The remaining students will count the number of students in each side of the triangle.
  9. Students will be asked to find the squareof the number of students in each side.
  10. If the square of the one side is equal to the sum of the square of the other two sides, the students running along the side of triangle is a right angle triangle and the side where the number of student is more than the two sides is hypotenuse. Also the angle opposite to the hypotenuse is a right angle.

Variations

They can be encouraged to try out this activity for different sides of the triangles and also with the maximum participation of students. Some time they will order to run fast and some time very slow in clockwise and anticlockwise direction.

Coaching Tips

Guide the students that at the start of music they have to run as per the direction given by the teacher and when the music stops they have to stand in between the marks mentioned in the ground.

Students have to count the number of students in each side of the triangle and then find the square of number of students in each side.

Equipment/Material Required

White powder for marking points on the ground, Plain paper and Pen

4 4 4 4 .1. A well thought activity. Class may be divided into groups/teams and team competitions organised. 2.Cone pegs or other alternative available equipment may be used to mark the positions along the sides of the triangles for the activity. 3. Tabular formats be devised to record the data of each team and its members. 4 Different types of triangles can be designed and each team be asked to perform the activity simultaneously on rotation basis. 5.Students be actively involved in the process of collection, organising and analysis of data to achieve the desired LOs. 6. Variations in the activity may include various loco-motor and manipulativebody movements. Rachna delete edit
