MEASUREMNT OF SQUARE AND RECTANGULAR STRIP AREA AND VARIFYING THE PRODUCT OF TWO POLINOMIALS

Learning Outcomes

1.     Use direct and indirect measurements and describe the relationship between square and rectangle areas in order to multiply two polynomials

2.     Apply distributive property in order to multiply two algebraic expressions (polynomials)

3.     Comparing the size of paper used in this activity.

4.     Develop and apply the multiplication between the number and variable.

Develop measurement skills of different playgrounds (courts).

Description Of Activity

1.      The teacher asks students to make 3 and 4 groups.

2.     Each group contains 10 students.

3.     Each group is asked to go to the playground (basketball court) with some square and rectangular paper sheets.

4.     They are asked to measure the square and rectangular paper sheets dimensions and to note it.

5.     They are asked to assemble/affix these paper cuttings showing four different examples of multiplication of two polynomials in the given PowerPoint presentation.

           6.   A student will get a clear idea of and how distributive property works in order to multiply two algebraic expressions. (Polynomials)

Variations

1.     Students can be encouraged by measuring the dimensions, area of squares, and rectangle took in the example before multiplying and after multiplying two algebraic expressions.

2.     Students asked to measure basketball court ( or any other game court like basketball, volleyball, kho kho etc ) also.

Coaching Tips

You can encourage the students to calculate the area of a rectangle and square and verify it after multiplying two polynomials as demonstrated in this mesurement activity.

Equipment/Material Required

Measuring tape, colored chalk, scale, colored sheets, scissors, Notepad, pencil.
